If you’ve ever wanted to snap a selfie with a celebrity, then the last place you’d look would probably be a sleepy Mexican fishing village like Punta de Mita. secret celebrity hideaway.

Perhaps this is why celebrities flock here in droves – to escape the paparazzi and let their hair down a bit.

At first glance, Punta de Mita is an unassuming seaside hamlet, located about an hour north of the glitzy resort town of Puerto Vallarta.

If you’re a fan of Lady Gaga, this is the place to be. In 2011, she became a bit of a local fixture on Punta de Mita’s secluded beaches, where the singer reportedly spent most of her days ripping up the surf. At night she retreated to a private villa for cocktails and poolside parties.

In 2015, Gwyneth Paltrow was also seen kicking back in Punta de Mita, and she rented out a beach house for $18,000 a week. For anyone wondering: that price tag isn’t in pesos.  Lady Gaga and Paltrow are far from the only celebrities to pass through here.

Punta de Mita’s most exclusive resort, Casa Aramara, is famed for drawing guests like Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria and Mario Lopez. Other stars to pass through Punta de Mita include Kanye West, Orlando Bloom, Vince Vaughn, Demi Moore and and Kim Kardashian, to name just a few.

According to TMZ, Charlie Sheen also spent some time here in 2011, when he was trying to resuscitate his relationship with Brooke Mueller. In his own words, this is how the controversial sitcom star described Punta de Mita:

“Forgot how much I love this place. #mexico is paradise… Brooke and I are thinking about staying for the rest of the month!!!” He tweeted at the time.

Whatever you think of Sheen, it’s clear he knows how to pick holiday destinations.

Punta de Mita’s allure largely comes down to its seclusion and exclusivity. The village boasts over nine miles (14 kilometers) of untouched beaches. Most of these beaches aren’t open to the public, giving resort goers pure peace and privacy.

The village also has pretty much perfect weather. Punta de Mita is located on the same latitude as Hawaii, hence you can expect a similar climate. The days are warm and cloudless, with gentle sea breezes keeping the mercury from getting too high.

Overall, the summer months see an average temperature of around 85 °F (29 °C). In other words, it’s the perfect place for kicking back on a private beach and sipping margaritas for a few days.

Regarding accommodation, there are a few high end hotels including the Four Seasons Punta de Mita and the St Regis Punta de Mita. Like celebrities, many optfor Punta Mita villa rentals as they offer more seclusion, space, and privacy.

As Lady Gaga can probably attest, it’s also one of the best places in Mexico for surf lessons. Other possible activities around town include scuba diving, sailing, bike riding fishing and whale watching.

If you’re up for an adventure, it’s also worth checking out the nearby Marieta Islands. The islands are protected as a national park, and are just a 15 minute boat ride from town.

Of course, you could always just relax in Punta de Mita, and count the celebrities who pass by.
