New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Boasting more restaurants, bars, and attractions than virtually any other city in the world, there’s something for everyone in the City That Never Sleeps.
How can you find adventure in New York? Here’s my first-time traveller’s guide.
BOOK A HOTEL NEAR TIMES SQUARE
Manhattan is the place to stay when you’re in NYC. There are a number of must-visit neighbourhoods throughout, but there’s no greater base than a hotel near Times Square.
Located on Broadway, the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan is within a seven-minute walk of notable sights like the Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall. The hotel also offers views of the city and neighbouring Times Square.
Guests can chill out at the on-site New York Sports Club that features a sauna and pool or sip a cocktail at the hotel’s Broadway 49 Bar before heading out to explore the city. Central Park is a 10-minute walk away, and the 49th Street underground station is also nearby.
ENJOY AN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
If you think a trip to New York is all bagels and cocktails, think again. The city has a wealth of outdoor activities for every level of fitness. From zip-lining, jet skiing, and horseback riding to flying high on the trapeze, you won’t need to travel far for an active afternoon.
Don’t forget to take a twirl around the ice rink at Rockefeller Center. It may seem a bit cliché, but it’s a must when visiting the city in winter.
SAMPLE THE CITY’S WEIRDEST AND MOST WONDERFUL ATTRACTIONS
As with any city, often some of the best attractions are the most unusual. New York boasts a number of out-of-the-box itinerary options to consider.
The New York Adventure Club offers tours of the more unique and often unknown attractions within the city. Head behind the scenes of a 100-year-old private club or get beauty tips from a red carpet stylist. The club guarantees an experience unlike any other you’ve ever had.
For a memorable evening out, book a table at Gallow Green. This rooftop bar has a garden vibe and immerses patrons in an eerie avant-garde world that spans all five floors of the building. Race around 100,000 square feet of space while watching a wordless version of Macbeth as art-directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and then sip some of the Scottish Bothy’s signature cocktails and punch bowls.
EXPERIENCE AN ALFRESCO FITNESS CLASS IN CENTRAL PARK
Even if you’ve only got 48 hours in New York, it’s important to find a little me time. Stretch away the stresses of the day with yoga at Brooklyn Grange Navy Yard Farm or enjoy some organic tea after a workout session in Battery Park.
Visiting New York during the cold winter months? When the weather isn’t cooperating, there are plenty of epic workout studios scattered throughout the boroughs.
With the many opportunities for adventure in New York City, it’s no wonder it’s one of the most visited destinations on the planet. Plan your trip today!
