5 European Weekend Breaks That Will Give You A Festive Feeling

Now that winter is approaching and the mornings and evenings are darker, it is easy to feel like life is becoming a bit dull.

But don’t forget that Christmas is just around the corner, and one way to get into the festive spirit and break the monotony of day to day life is to go on a weekend break.

Here are some ideas of where you could go.

PRAGUE

 

Prague is a fabulous city for a weekend break, there’s just so much to see and do. You will feel like you have entered another world as you walk along the narrow-cobbled roads.

Make sure you head to Old Town and see Wenceslas Square and check out the hourly show of the medieval Astronomical Clock. Walk across the stunning Charles Bridge and then head up the hill to visit the imposing Gothic architecture of St. Vitus Cathedral. Make sure you save time to see all the stalls at the very festive Christmas market.

BUDAPEST

Budapest is an exciting city to visit on a winter weekend break. It may be chilly but there is plenty to do here, and visiting in winter means there are fewer tourists.

You can visit one of the many public bath houses that the city is known for and relax in the natural mineral waters. Rent a bicycle and explore the banks of the Danube River.  Explore one of the more than two hundred art galleries and museums that this city has to offer. Try smoking hookah at one of the many cafes in the city.

VALENCIA

Visiting Valencia is a great way to stir things up in your life. It is the 3rd largest city in Spain and it filled with exciting things to do. Visit the Valencia Cathedral where you can see what may very well be the Holy Grail nestled in a small chapel inside.

Make sure that you climb bell tower to see a stunning view of the city. Explore the city’s stunning squares that are filled with amazing architecture from different eras. There are also many beautiful parks and beaches that you can relax on. Before heading back to the airport, be sure to try the tapas and indulge in these fantastic appetizers that are abundant throughout Spain.

LILLE

 

Lille is a large city in France that is not often listed as a tourist destination. But this vibrant city is a lot of fun and should definitely not be missed. It is lovely during the summer, but during the winter you can experience the wonderful Christmas market where you can stock up on Christmas presents and drink mulled wine.

Whilst in Lille, visit the beautiful Old Town that has a strong Flemish accent and head to Palais des Beaux Arts where you can see works by Rubens and Manet. Explore the

Citadelle, a star shaped fortress that was built in the 17th century. Indulge in some fabulous French food and then head out for a night on the town as this city boasts of a bustling night life. On Sunday morning make sure you take the time to visit Marché de Wazemmes, a fabulous food market.

There are so many things to do in London on a weekend break. Start your day off with a tour which will show you the iconic landmarks of the city and then go for a picnic in St. James Park. Watch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace and then go for afternoon tea.

Visit St Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey and be awed by the beauty of both the interiors and exteriors of these magnificent buildings. Treat yourself to some shopping on New Bond Street before heading out for a magnificent dinner at one of the many fabulous restaurants that London has to offer.
